My Favorite Horror Movies of 2024
The year is coming to an end (finally), and it's time to list some of my favorite horror movies of this year.
Now, I didn't get to watch as many this year, and I missed watching a few talked-about ones, but there's always next year to catch up on all that I didn't get to see this year.
So here is my list of favourite horror movies that I watched this year
1) Longlegs
Yes, this will always be at the top of my list of favorite horror movies because of the meticulous and path-breaking marketing campaign.
Nicolas Cage also played one of those roles which was part eccentric and mostly creepy.
The entire movie had an eerie atmosphere throughout that comes to an end only after the credits roll.
2) Smile 2
I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was.
It helps that the soundtrack is catchy and goes with the theme of the movie.
Naomi Scott fully embodies the role of Skye Riley, a superstar singer who becomes a victim of the smile curse.
It is one of those sequels that easily surpasses the original.
3) Abigail
Another fun horror movie, this time with vampires. Abigail has a wonderful star cast and an even better storyline. It combines elements of dark humour and horror very well and is easily one of the most enjoyable movies you can watch this year
4) Heretic
Hugh Grant manages to break through his romantic hero role, properly, with this movie.
He plays the role of a psychopath so efficiently that it gives you the creeps whenever he is on screen.
5) Apartment 7A
Rosemary's Baby was one of the horror novels I read this year, and I found it to be extremely captivating. So, of course, I couldn't wait to watch a prequel to it.
Julia Garner will steal your attention with her role as an injured and then tormented dancer.
You almost feel sorry for her when she comes on screen because fans of the original movie know exactly what happened to Terry Gionoffrio.
6) Late Night With The Devil
The year 2024 can be known as the year we got to see several experimental and original stories.
Late Night With The Devil is one of them.
David Dastmalchian plays the role of a desperate late-night host, extremely well. He manages to convey desperation, shock, and guilt easily while capably carrying the movie on his shoulders.
It's another must-watch movie.
7) The Substance
I'm not much into body horror movies, but I couldn't pass up a movie that stars the amazing Demi Moore.
The Substance would not be what it is without her and Margaret Qualley's impeccable performance. The two managed to shock you as well as laugh out at odd moments.
The Substance breaks all barriers and is easily one of the most entertaining horror movies of this year.
You may need a strong stomach to watch the last scene, though.
8) Oddity
At first glance, Oddity looks like a dull movie but watch it and you will find it is anything but.
Oddity has an interesting story that combines elements of supernatural horror and occult seamlessly.
It is unsettling from start to finish, and I do mean it.
The first scene will get you to the edge of your seat and you will remain there until the movie ends.
9) Blink Twice
There's always a twisted movie in the mix and Blink Twice is exactly that.
Channing Tatum plays a tech billionaire who is charming and funny. The fact that he is sleazy is revealed only later and by then it is too late for Naomi Ackie's character, Frida.
The performances are great, and the storyline ends up being satisfying.
10) Speak No Evil
James McAvoy cannot help being charming even though he is supposed to play a despicable character in this remake of a Danish-Dutch horror movie.
The remake thankfully has a much more positive ending than the original and is not as disturbing.
It is one of those movies that leaves a lasting impression on you and makes you wary of talking to strangers.
