Short Horror Film Review: Selfie

PLOT SUMMARY: A woman is sending selfies to her boyfriend when she notices a stranger in her photos.

We live in a world where we have several tools in the palm of our hand thanks to mobile phones.

The camera especially is the one tool that is the most in use. Even if we aren't taking pictures of ourselves,  who can resist taking a picture of the perfect sunset, or spring flowers or the beach?

But yes, selfies have become increasingly popular over the years and many phones have quickly adapted to offering selfie mode to customers as well. It sure beats asking a stranger to take a picture of you, right? Or taking an askewed photo all by yourself by holding the phone with one hand.

Taking a selfie gives you full control of the picture you want to take of yourself or your friends. But what if an unknown person creeps into your photos...

SELFIE Movie Plot with Spoilers!

A woman is at home, sitting on a couch and texting her boyfriend. Soon enough, her boyfriend wants to know what she's wearing and wants her to send a selfie. They don't want to try video calling just yet.

The woman poses, clicks and sends it but her boyfriend wants to know who is in the background. The woman zooms in and sure enough there's a guy in a hoodie and a white mask. Not ghostface of course. She is stunned and turns but there is no one there.

She thinks someone is in the house but it is just her brother, creeping up on her and asking for his keys which are hanging right behind him.

The boyfriend texts again. He wants to see a picture of her without her brother. They all think it was her brother who was wearing a mask and hoodie to photobomb her.

The woman takes another selfie and sure enough, the man reappears only this time, he may just seem a bit closer.

Now frightened at the prospect of having an intruder in the house, she calls up her boyfriend only to face interruptions.

The woman then decides she needs to see how close the intruder is as he only shows up in selfies. She takes another selfie and screams when she finds the man practically on top of her.

In the next scene, we see the woman sprawled out on the couch, eyes open and lifeless. Her phone lights up with a text.

Her boyfriend thinks there may be someone in his house.

The short movie is under three minutes and is successful in building suspense and intrigue. The short is well-written and leaves scope for a sequel.

Yes, there is a Selfie 2.
