Baghead-- My take on the movie with spoilers!
Plot: Iris inherits a pub that comes with a dark secret hidden inside the walls.
Losing a parent can be depressing, but some solace comes in the form of the inheritance they leave behind.
But imagine if what they leave behind isn't something that makes you secure, but something that is just a little dangerous.
Baghead could have been a spooky film. It does have the right ingredients for it. Unfortunately it never fully utilizes its themes and ends up being a forgettable movie.
The acting is barely adequate and the movie drags along rather than delivering surprising twists or even decent thrills.
You'll also find Baghead a lot similar to Talk to Me, the low-budget horror movie that became a hit and also has a sequel underway.
BAGHEAD Plot
Meet Owen who is recording a video one night, when a man called Neil comes to see him with an odd request. Owen turns him away continues recording the video and warns the viewer of the creature in the basement. He does say he is trying to put an end to it.
He sets fire to the pub but ends up getting burned to death himself.
We are then introduced to Iris who is facing problems with her accommodations. Katie, her best friend, tries to help her but cannot let Iris stay with her for long.
Iris is then contacted by a solicitor who informs her of her father's death and her inheritance. Iris doesn't emote much after hearing that piece of news. In fact, she doesn't emote much at all throughout the movie. We learn that she has been estranged from her father but since she is intrigued by the inheritance, she meets with the solicitor.
There she learns that she has inherited a pub called the Queen's Head. Iris finally has a place to stay and so agrees to take it rather than sell it. And so off she goes signing the papers without properly reading them.
Iris is getting ready to spend the night at the pub when Neil shows up, asking to go to the basement and see his wife Sarah. Iris tells him to leave but he is persistent and offers to pay in thousands.
Iris is naturally confused but also needs the money. She has just found a video left by her father but decides not to watch it until later.
Against Katie's advice, Iris lets Neil in again and lets him see his wife.
She goes down the basement trying to figure out what Neil is alluding to when she sees the hole in the wall.
Katie is present too and not so sure about Neil.
Neil requests her to come out and we then meet Baghead.
Iris is shocked but clearly not too much because she stays to watch rather than freak out. Baghead approaches Iris who tells her to not come closer. She instantly stops.
Iris instructs her to sit and she does exactly that. Iris likes that she can boss her around.
Baghead seats herself and Neil sits across. He explains that he can see his wife if Baghead swallows her ring.
Baghead does exactly that but then speaks differently. Neil realizes that since the ring is an heirloom and used to belong to his mother, Baghead has brought forward Regina, his mother.
Regina taunts Neil and blames her suicide on him. As two minutes pass, her eyes turn dark and she seems to change. Iris quickly puts the sack back on her head to restrain her and instructs her to go back into the wall.
Baghead does exactly that.
Neil wants to try again but Iris and Katie refuse. At first.
Neil is offering a lot of money and Iris is curious about the tenant on her new property.
She finally watches her father's video where he warns the viewer not to let Baghead out or use her powers. And if anyone does, they need to be careful to only allow a two-minute interaction with the dead.
Iris desperate for the money, gives in to Neil's persistent demand to see his wife.
The next time Neil finally manages to make a connection with Sarah. Iris is expecting a touching reunion. Instead, Neil wants to know if his wife is cheating on him. After the two-minute mark, Baghead takes over and Iris has a difficult time sending her back. Before she leaves, Baghead mentions that they are both prisoners.
Katie of course isn't too keen on Iris staying on.
There is more stuff happening like the solicitor not being who he said he was and Iris not being able to burn the deed to get out of the mess.
Eventually, Katie and Iris get into a fight after Iris accuses her friend of not wanting her to have a creepy old pub with a supernatural tenant and instead wants her to be her charity case.
But Katie, being a good friend, further investigates just what is going on with Baghead.
BAGHEAD Ending Explained with Spoilers
Katie finds out that the solicitor lived many years ago and he comes to her to narrate the story of Baghead.
Basically, there was a Brotherhood that figured out that a woman could conjure up the spirits of the dead. She refused to help them and so they branded her a witch and had her killed. Her spirit returned, vengeful, and destroyed the crops and livestock. The Brotherhood managed to contain her in a place that is now the Queen's Head Pub.
Now the ghost thinks that he is revealing his secrets to the one who is now responsible for Baghead. When he realizes that she is just a friend, he attacks her.
Iris, lamenting her fight with Katie, thinks she has heard her voice. Instead, she is beckoned to go into the wall space where her father had told her not to go.
Iris finds Katie's body and is upset. Neil comes over and helps her from being entrapped by Baghead.
Turns out Baghead has joined hands with Neil to trap and kill Iris. Baghead had turned back into Sarah who had blamed Neil for drugging her which led to the accident. Neil tells her he didn't mean to overdose her nor expect her to go driving after their fight. She reveals she was pregnant at that time.
This was enough to guilt Neil into helping Baghead.
Neil drugs Iris and tries to become Baghead's new owner. But it doesn't work. Iris is still alive and still owns Baghead.
Iris, still facing the effects of the drugs, overhears the exchange and flees right to the roof. Neil follows her up there and manages to toss Iris off the roof.
He goes down triumphantly announcing Iris' death. He tries to get Iris out through Baghead so that she can transfer the deed to him.
Baghead practically laughs at him. Since Iris is dead, Baghead has no owner. She is now free.
Neil is done away with and Baghead no longer has any use for the sack. The pub too, is burned down.
The movie ends.
Baghead was an annoyingly convoluted movie that had potential but was let down heavily by mediocre acting and a dull script.
