Cinderella's Revenge--My take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot: After being pushed around by her step-family, Cinderella gets her revenge with the help of her fairy godmother.

After seeing the Cinderella story go through so many renditions, it is refreshing to see it slip into the horror genre.

Was there anyone who didn't wish the step-family would get their comeuppance after how they treated Cinderella?

Well, now, they can see it on their screens.

Cinderella's Revenge starts off fine. It establishes the story, takes too much time to do, and makes us feel like it's just an ordinary Cinderella story.

Ten minutes in, and you will begin to get impatient with the lack of thrills.

But Cinderella's Revenge isn't the worst horror movie you will ever see.

The budget is short, yet the actors do a decent job with the material. At one point, though, the movie almost takes a suggestive tone, but thankfully, it doesn't completely give in to it.

CINDERELLA'S REVENGE Movie Plot

The movie begins with a man running for his life. He arrives at his cottage, where he informs the woman, obviously his wife, that he has been accused of stealing the King's jewels.

The woman is gleeful. Men in masks appear behind him and kill him off. The woman, Katherine, is ecstatic. She's the one who stole the jewels in the first place.

She then goes by the lake where a young girl is sitting. Katherine calls her Cinderella and informs her that her father has been killed.

There is a tear shed and some sniffling. Katherine also tells her that she will take care of her but she must earn her keep.

Some time passes and Cinderella is seen outside the house, sweeping.

She has stepsisters, Rachel and Josephine. They try to get her into trouble by smashing a glass against the wall and blaming it on Cinderella.

Katherine doesn't entirely believe Cinderella could be that clumsy or ill-mannered. But she is curt with her nevertheless.

And then, just like in the story, the family receives an invitation to a party. Despite the King being ill, there is going to be a ball and apparently, the Prince is seeking a wife.

Everyone in the household is excited, including Cinderella. But she wonders if she will get to go. She cautiously approaches Katherine in the study. When she calls her mother, she corrects her by saying she's her stepmother.

When Cinderella asks for permission to go to the party, Katherine tells her that the next time she will not be lenient and will allow Cinderella to go away or else she will be punished.

On the day of the party, nothing much of horror is going on. It's the same Cinderella tale so far.

Everyone leaves, Cinderella begs to go to the party and the fairy godmother shows up. She's pretty modern and has called people from our present and Cinderella's future to give her a makeover.

They even claim it is an honor to meet Cinderella. All dressed up and wearing her glass slippers, all that is left is transport.

There's no pumpkin carriage this time around, but an orange Tesla driven by a fake Elon Musk.

At the ball, the hall looks like someone's two-bedroom living room.

There's barely any place for anyone to even stand.

The prince informs everyone of the King's poor health but that the party will commence.

The Prince isn't having a good time and Rachel and Josephine are making a terrible impression.

Cinderella walks in and the Prince is mesmerized. Katherine recognizes Cinderella and is ready to reprimand her but she is pulled back before she can make a scene.

The Prince and Cinderella dance and he is clearly smitten but it is almost midnight so Cinderella runs out.

The Prince manages to find her and kisses her just as she runs into a mist. She is back in her plain clothes and she has lost a glass slipper that the Prince has found.

Cinderella is obviously punished for not following the rules. She is whipped and tortured.

When the Prince's Footman arrives at their house with the slipper, Katherine ties up Cinderella and hides her. She instructs her daughters to make sure their foot fits into the slipper.

Rachel tries really hard to fit her foot in and almost pulls off the Footman's hair but it doesn't work.

Katherine sends the Footman away and tells Josephine to cut off her toes so that her foot will fit. Josephine does exactly that much to her sister's disgust. The toes cut off easily too, like soft cake.

Anyway, the Footman arrives in time to see Katherine forcing the shoe on her daughter. Aghast at their desperate efforts, he leaves, ignoring Cindrella's audible cries for help.

Katherine comes in and hurls more insults at Cinderella, reminding her that the Prince will never marry a servant like her.

It's finally time for Cinderella to seek her revenge after pretty much half the movie is over.

CINDERELLA'S REVENGE Ending Explained with Spoilers

Unlike the fairytale, the godmother makes another appearance in the story and encourages, or rather, provokes Cinderella to seek revenge.

And so she does exactly that in the most gruesome ways.

For instance, she plucks out one of her stepsister's eyes and lays it on a pillow. She stabs another sister in the neck with a glass slipper.

Katherine, sick of being beaten by a killer in a mask, seeks out a man who is just as savage as the killer.

Cinderella is wearing the same mask as the man who had killed her father.

There is some gratuitous nudity but Katherine isn't a prude so she walks right in while the man is having relations.

Eventually, with everyone now victims of Cinderella's Revenge, Katherine unmasks the killer to find it is only Cinderella behind it.

But of course, she has estimated her stepdaughter and pays the price for it.

Free from her tormenting family, Cinderella marries the Prince and immediately plays the dominant wife.

The Prince seems to enjoy being submissive.

In the end, Cinderella worried that her past may come after her, is relieved to find out that the detective in charge of the case of the killings is none other than her godmother. Cinderella is happy that her godmother will always protect her.

The end.

Cinderella's Revenge could have used a little more focus and the horror parts, though imaginative, were few.

Nevertheless, it is a decent effort to twist a beloved fairytale.
