Horror Movie News: Christmas Movies planned for 2025
It's the new year!
2024 brought us exceptional horror stories and villains. There were many horror movies that were not only successful at the box office but also received Golden Globe nominations.
While we may not know how horror movies will fare this year, what we do know for now is how the year 2025 will end.
In December 2025, get ready for two Christmas-themed horror movies!
The first is THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD.
The movie was first announced as a reboot, but the premise hints at being a direct sequel to the original film.
In the original movie, two bumbling employees accidentally release a deadly gas in the air that causes zombies to come attack the town.
In the end, after a nuclear strike, a toxic rain awakens more zombies.
The movie had moderate success and spawned four sequels.
The reboot will be released in December 2025. Not much has been revealed about the movie except that it is written and directed by Steve Wolsh, and that one of the finalised actors is Alexander Ward.
And yes, there is a teaser!
In the teaser, a soulful rendition of Silent Night plays, and we see a tall dark figure, most likely a zombie, dragging a decorated Christmas tree into a cemetery.
The tree is still plugged in, but when the figure keeps yanking the tree, it unplugs, and the lights on the tree go off.
This is a perfect cinematographic shot to set the theme for a holiday horror movie.
We may have to wait a whole year before we see the full trailer.
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD is scheduled to be released in December 2025.
In other news...
Santa Claus is coming back to town!
After the success of VIOLENT NIGHT in 2022, a sequel was greenlit, and in December 2024, it was confirmed that the writing was underway.
David Harbour, who played the role of a savage Santa Claus in the first movie, is all set to reprise his role in the sequel.
Ever since 2022, there have been talks of a Mrs Claus being a part of the movie as well as part of the story taking place in North Pole. That means we may even get to see elves!
According to reports, Charlize Theron is Harbour's choice to play Mrs Claus.
There is no official confirmation on the rest of the cast, but a social media post shows actor David Harbour holding a script for Violent Night 2, and that means the movie is happening at least.
