Bloody Ishq-- My take on the movie with spoilers
Plot: Following an accident, Neha loses part of her memory and must rely on her husband Romesh to help her. However, Romesh has a dangerous secret that threatens their future.
First things first, Bloody Ishq is an entertaining movie but not for the reasons you think. It's not a good horror movie. It's not even a good movie. But the fact that it is so badly made that you can laugh through it, makes Bloody Ishq worth a watch. No, you will not be watching it again regardless of how entertained you were during the first watch.
Bloody Ishq seems to be an unfinished product, hastily released. The editing is choppy and the dialogues laying over disconnected scenes can make you feel lost. Plot points are forgotten and at times it feels like the movie was stretched beyond the storyline. It could have worked better as a short film rather than an undeserved full-length.
BLOODY ISHQ Movie Plot Summary
Neha is underwater and thinking whether she is dead or not. She awakens in the hospital and is told she survived an accident and that her husband Romesh is there for her.
Romesh decides to take her home and she gets in a helicopter. The two apparently live on a secluded island, in a mansion. Neha keeps asking questions about whether this is their island and their house, etc. Romesh is patient with her and answers all her queries.
Once she enters the house, she feels confused and still can't remember things because of the gaps in her memory.
She finds photos of her and Romesh but can't remember ever being in love with him. But instead of talking about it, she creates a dramatic scene about not being able to feel any love for Romesh.
The scene will make you cringe even though its purpose was to make you feel sympathy for her. Romesh convinces her to play the piano to calm herself down and she manages to play a tune without missing a key.
We never get to see her play the piano again. In fact we don't get to see the piano either.
This is followed by a flashback scene of Romesh meeting Neha. Its a cliche scene of the two accidentally exchanging their phones. Romesh makes his interest in her obvious by constantly turning around and smiling at her. He also has lovestruck eyes.
He then pursues her on social media and right after she accepts his friend's request, they go on a date and play giant chess. A song is playing in the background but it isn't memorable.
The sequence ends with Romesh and Neha becoming intimate. Neha may be in two minds about her love for Romesh but she quickly gives in to going to bed with him.
As they are cuddling in bed, they hear a loud crash and go downstairs to see that a glass door has been broken. Romesh makes up some lame excuse of the door not being installed properly. Neha suggests they get the repairs done.
There was some backdoor about their business going under during the pandemic and how Neha came up with a brilliant plan to turn the island into a resort.
In that case, they should be working from home, yet Romesh is seen going out every day for whatever reason. The repairmen are called and take forever to get the repairs done. After that, they are never seen again but hopefully,y they were paid for their services.
Neha finds it strange that some parts of the mansion is bolted, like the boat garage or that the elevator doesn't work. But Romesh tells her that there is nothing behind it and she shouldn't be worried about it.
One day, when Romesh is out, a woman with a scar on the side of her face comes to see Neha. She says her name is Ayesha and that she has come to warn her of her husband. Ayesha tells her that there is some creepy stuff happening in the house and all that is because it is haunted. Neha had told Ayesha about it who had tried to help her but then the accident had happened. Ayesha suggests that Romesh only cares about the money and there was a distance in their relationship.
Since Neha has been hearing whooshing sounds and cackling sounds, she wonders why her husband has been keeping secrets from her. She also wants to know why someone has been blowing her hair from behind.
While Ayesha is talking, the scene we see is Neha having dinner with Romesh. For some reason, the movie has to be confusing instead of scary. Romesh compliments her ability to make a pasta dish considering she barely remembers anything in the house. But since he has to use a fork and knife to eat, maybe she didn't do such a great job?
Neha then confronts Romesh about hiding secrets and wanting to know if their house is haunted. It's another scene where she overacts and overdramatizes everything.
Romesh understands that her friend Ayesha came to see her. He tells her that the two were best friends since school and came to study in Scotland and that Neha was the only one who found her happy ending which is why Ayesha is jealous of her.
Neha seems to take this explanation as reality. She goes to take a shower and Romesh enters with puppy dog eyes. Another song, another intimate scene.
Soon after, Neha meets with a police officer Devdutt Sinha who tells her that she had come to him before the accident to inquire about the house and her husband. There was a mark on her forehead at that time.
He also tells her that Romesh's father died in suspicious circumstances on his yacht which burned down due to a short circuit. However, the Investigators had found Romesh's jacket there. With no other evidence of foul play, the case was closed.
Neha realizes Romesh may be up to something but doesn't confront him again. There's more blowing wind and chuckling but Neha also hears moans and images of a couple making out.
She then comes across a book that has a receipt for 500 euros. Neha had seemingly paid ghost hunters to conduct an investigation.
But Neha struggles to go across the island in a ferry due to her fear of water.
Luckily, she gets into another argument with Romesh where she practically tells him she is sick of him being nice to her. This happens after another encounter with Ayesha who tells her that Neha was about to break up with Romesh.
Romesh gives more puppy dog eyes but Neha decides she wants to know the truth all by herself and she knows that despite what Romesh is saying, the house is haunted.
The next morning, she's off on a ferry and then takes a taxi to meet the ghost hunter Abhay. He tells her he had a partner called Tanisha and that both of them came to her mansion to investigate. He shows her a video and Neha sees herself with the Investigators, holding a locket with a star symbol. Tanisha suggests putting the locket in the salt water to weaken the spirit which is obviously attached to this.
The locket keeps jumping about and everyone chases it. Abhay is good at shooting the scene from every possible angle.
Tanisha gets possessed and her eyes get white and her face distorts. She talks gibberish and doesn't reply to their demands to give up her identity.
Neha realizes the haunting is not part of her imagination. She goes back to the mansion and finds a thumb drive. It's a video recording of Romesh trying to confirm there is a spirit in the house.
Romesh enters just then and Neha accuses him of gaslighting her.
He decides to tell her the truth. He would go away on business for long periods and she would get bored. She started to go to a cafe and befriended a woman called Shaina.
Shaina did not have good intentions and one night, spiked Neha's drink and recorded a video of her and Neha in a compromising position.
She started to blackmail the two and Romesh tried to handle the situation but was unable to pay the huge amount of 50,000 euros since they were in debt. One night when Neha was out, Shaina came to see Romesh and threatened to release the clip online. He got into a fight with her that resulted in him accidentally pushing her causing her to hit her head on a table and die.
That's the ghost that has been haunting them and it is Neha's fault.
Neha can't believe her husband loves her so much that he committed murder for her. She is more than impressed and sings a song and gets intimate with him.
So we now know the truth and its a happy ending for the couple, right?
Nope. All this happens in one hour and there is still another hour left of the movie.
So yes, Romesh is lying. We know that because there is an hour left of the movie.
While a song is playing in the background, we see a woman keeping an eye on Neha.
Later that night while the couple is spooning, Neha receives a text from an unknown person asking her to meet her at the indoor pool now or she would come the next day.
Neha gets dressed up to meet the person who has managed to enter her indoor pool.
The island was supposed to be secluded yet the woman managed to come see Neha in the middle of the night via a ferry? Or a helicopter?
The woman drops a bombshell, she is Ayesha. Neha is in disbelief. The woman claiming to be Ayesha had a scar on her face. This woman appears to be older. The woman tells her to check her social media and how is it that she never checked it in the first place. Neha tells her the island doesn't get a network.
The woman shows her social media account proving that Internet does work. Neha is surprised to see that she was in fact friends with this woman and that she is Ayesha.
Ayesha tells her that her husband has been lying to her and Neha feels betrayed. At this point she has confronted and bedded Romesh several times.
She tells Neha she can help her find the truth through some psychics.
The next day, off they go to a hospital where they meet a father and daughter psychic team. The father has been in a coma for a while and Neha has to hold his hand while the daughter holds his other hand so that they can find out what happened.
The second Neha holds his hand, the man awakens and talks gibberish. On the monitor, instead of his vitals, there is Russian phrases.
The daughter later tells Neha that her father was trying to deliver a message that the truth lies underground.
Neha decides to check the boat garage. Ayesha wants to come but Neha assures her she will be fine on her own and that she doesn't want her friend to get in harm's way.
We never get to see Ayesha again. The workers have left too at this point.
Neha finds a precarious path to the boat garage, trips and falls, and almost breaks her arm. She spots a floating woman's sandal and reaches for it only to topple in the water. That is when she sees a woman's corpse tied to a cement block. There's even a scar on her face that matches the ones the woman who claimed to be Ayesha had.
Neha goes off to confront Romesh again and this time he breaks down and tells her the truth.
BLOODY ISHQ Ending Explained with Spoilers
A month before Romesh and Neha were about to get married, Romesh was in the cafe when a shooting took place. He hides in a cupboard along with a woman who is the same one who visited Neha. The police arrive on time but while they are hiding, Romesh and the woman clearly have a moment even in this life-and-death situation.
Romesh later notices a wound on the woman's back, something the police didn't notice and advise her to check with the medics.
The woman introduces herself as Kimaya Tandon, and Romesh offers to look after her in his house rather than take her to a hospital.
As she undresses and he applies antiseptic on her, Kimaya notices a photo of him with his father. She then tells him to get some wine and he happily complies only to return and see that she has gone.
The next time when he sees her, she is in a sports car and offers to drop him to his destination. At the traffic light, she gets into a race with some strangers and Romesh is terrified. They win of course but he literally jumps out of the car and calls her mad. Kimaya explains how the adrenaline rush is called living. The two then make out.
They begin an affair and Kimaya is not too pleased that he is talking to Neha on the phone.
Soon enough, she sort of breaks up with him. Romesh goes to see his father who has some exciting news for him. Romesh manages to guess what it is since his father smells of female perfume. His father confirms that he has remarried to...Kimaya Tandon.
Kimaya comes down the stairs and smirks while Romesh pales.
Later he confronts Kimaya who admits that she married his father for his money but that she loves Romesh. She wants to continue the affair despite being his stepmother. Romesh manages to get himself seduced again.
Unable to bear the guilt, one day, Romesh decides to tell his father the truth but takes too long to do so. Before he can utter his mistakes, Kimaya bops his father on the head and he dies on the spot.
Romesh goes after Kimaya and accidentally pushes her through the glass door.
Thinking they are both dead and not wanting to get into any legal problems and break up with Neha, he takes a boat and goes up to a yacht where he places both bodies and lights it on fire.
He accidentally left his jacket behind and apparently, Kimaya wasn't completely dead because she grabbed Romesh and told him he couldn't get rid of her so easily. He kicks her in the face and kills her but now has to bury her in the water.
Neha is disgusted with him but just then Kimaya's ghost attacks Romesh and he is stabbed in the stomach. Kimaya's ghost chases her all around the house.
At this point, the movie's budget has gone haywire because we see a very tacky CGI ghost. Apparently, the actress who played Kimaya gave up because we didn't see her. The mansion too looks like it is part real and part green screen.
Neha remembers Tanisha's advice about putting the locket in salt water. There's a scene copied from Lights Out where the ghost drops her locket when there is light. Neha plucks it up puts it in a bowl of water and then carries it around, swishing water everywhere. She couldn't find another vessel with a lid to keep it safe. Perhaps her memory loss didn't allow her to remember if she had such a container.
Neha decides that the only way to get out of this mess is to distract Kimaya and let Romesh get on the boat.
While Romesh makes it to the boat, Neha does some running about before chucking the locket into the fireplace and setting the whole room on fire.
She escapes with Romesh and when he loses consciousness, screams to not die on her.
Later, at the hospital, Romesh is alive. No suspense there, really. She then tells him that while she loves him she doesn't think she likes him anymore. I mean, he did gaslight her and had an affair with his stepmother.
Romesh begs her and promises to make things work but she is already walking away on the CGI floor. The overuse of green screens has made this movie visually jarring and almost unwatchable. Plus the editing is just tacky.
The movie ends by showing women's empowerment. At least that is what it is supposed to look like. The men in this movie are easily seduced and deceived by headstrong women.
While it is nice to see women getting strong roles, it isn't pleasing to see men being shown weaker in comparison.
It wasn't necessary to show Romesh and manipulative and then gaslighting Neha at every turn. And Rahul Dev's cameo as the father was an utter waste of his talents.
It seems the actor joined this movie because of contractual obligations rather than this movie having a good script.
Once upon a time, Vikram Bhatt had helmed decent horror movies like Raaz and the 1920 series. Now all we get to see is a shoddy script and subpar acting. This movie clearly doesn't bear the Bhatt trademark and one must wonder if he truly directed this movie.
