Horror Movie News: Marshmallow promises a horrific summer camp experience. The Ugly Stepsister releases trailer.

It may not officially be summer yet, but it's back to the summer camp for kids in horror movies.

Coming this April is a sci-fi horror movie called MARSHMALLOW. However, do not be misguided by the sugary treat name. The recently released trailer throws a vibe of mystery on horror.

The story is about a boy called Morgan who is sent to Camp Almar where apparently hearts, bodies, and minds come to grow. Morgan has a tough time fitting in and worse, he suffers from recurring nightmares.

At camp, he has trouble making friends and the camp counselors are worried about him.

Morgan keeps dreaming of being submerged in water and water spouting from his bellybutton.

One night, he hears the story of a Doctor who had a cellar. Not much is revealed at this point but Morgan sees a masked man, wearing a headlamp and carrying medical equipment, watching them.

The Doctor is then seen everywhere, stalking kids and grabbing them.

Morgan thinks the legend of the Doctor is real, but is it really?

According to the synopsis, a campfire tale becomes all too real and the campers soon learn a secret that questions their very existence.

Soā€¦are they not human but specimens of an experiment conducted by a mad doctor?

Probably.

Directed by Daniel DelPurgatorio and written by Andy Greskoviak, the movie stars Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, Winston Vengapally, Max Mallas, Corbin Bernsen, and Giorgia Whigham.

MARSHMALLOW releases on April 11th.

In other news, get ready for a dark retelling of the Cinderella story. While there have been some dark versions of Cinderella out there, a recent Norwegian film has been making waves and has received good reviews at the Sundance Film Festival.

In the horror retelling of the story, we get to see everything through the stepsisterā€™s eyes.

In the trailer, we see a young woman step into a new house. She is Elvira, an innocent girl whose mother has married a man with a daughter who is very beautiful.

When the father passes away, the stepmother wants to make sure her daughter Elvira has a royal marriage so that all their financial problems can be solved.

But Elvira wears braces and is nowhere as beautiful as her stepsister Agnes. Desperate for Elvira to get married to Prince Julian, her mother spares no thought before subjecting her daughter to painful beauty treatments.

We see Elvira go through a nose job followed by sewn on eyelashes. Following that, we see that in spite of all the beauty treatments she has gone through, at the ball, the Prince dances with a veiled woman and becomes enchanted with her.

The mysterious woman, no doubt Agnes, leaves behind a shoe.

After the Princeā€™s announcement of marriage to the one who can fit into this shoe, Elvira grows desperate and agitated.

It is clear that she has lost her sense of morality after enduring trauma during the beauty treatments.

At the end of the trailer, we see her chopping off her foot so that she can fit into the shoe.

Written and directed by Emilie Blichfeldt , the movie also stars Lea Myren as Elvira, Thea Sofie Loch NƦss as Agnes, Ane Dahl Torp as Rebekka, the stepmother, Flo Fagerli as little sister Alma, and Isac Calmroth as Prince Julian.

The Ugly Stepsister will release on April 18th.
