Horror Movie Reviews: #AMFAD (All My Friends Are Dead) 2024
Plot: Seven friends are heading to a music festival when their van breaks down. They find an AirBnB to spend the night, not realizing that a killer is on the loose.
Quick Movie Review
Here's something not so new: a slasher movie, a group of friends, a road trip that doesn't end well for anyone.
#AMFAD is yet another slasher movie that doesn't provide anything new except that its title is in hashtags, and you're supposed to believe that the movie is cool for Gen Z.
It is not.
The only redeeming quality about this movie is the somewhat twist played during the end credits. And a sequel is announced too, although it hasn't been officially greenlit yet.
Also, the acting is just about passable, which makes this a decent watch.
#AMFAD is devoid of originality, however, and desperately in need of a dose of humour to make the scenes watchable.
#AMFAD All My Friends Are Dead Movie Plot
The movie begins with news reports of a serial killer called the Seven Deadly Sins Killer, or SDSK for short, who had killed a group of friends some years ago.
We then see a clip of Jojo Siwa, but we haven't learned about her or her friends yet.
Cut to a group of phone-addicted friends who keep texting each other. They are attending a music festival called Karmapalooza.
Now Karma was one of Jojo Siwa's songs as well as the theme of the movie.
Moving on, Sarah is the new one in the friends group and the driver. One by one, the friends come at the meeting spot.
There's Mona, who is a social influencer, Will, who is lazy, and Liv, who is also trying to be popular like Mona, Guy, who prefers to be stoned all the time, and L.B. who keeps having multiple affairs.
There is also Aaron, who works in a pharmacy, but he doesn't go on the trip just yet. He has work. He also has an obvious crush on Sarah.
The friends go off on a trip as soon as L.B. arrives with a jealous boyfriend chasing him. L.B. just about makes it, but the angry boyfriend throws a pink milkshake on the glass.
The title appears, and the road is tracked in a pink milkshake. This is supposed to give the movie a touch of fun, but it looks ridiculous.
Just then, the tires puncture, and the friends are stranded. Luckily, a police car just happens to pass by. Guy and L.B. quickly hide their drugs.
Officer Shaw doesn't seem perturbed by the drugs and lets them carry it. She even offers to drive them after she tells them that the mechanic will need the entire day to fix their car and that there is too much traffic on the road , which will cause them to arrive late at their destination.
Sarah quickly finds them an Airbnb, and Officer Shaw drives them all there.
It's kind of convenient how Sarah keeps solving all the problems one by one...
The friends arrive at the house, and Mona is disappointed by the lack of a swimming pool.
Nevertheless, she always carries an inflatable pool that she uses to take her pictures. After getting her shot, she pulls in Sarah and gets her to take photos of herself as well.
Mona's agent, Rick, is keen to get every girl in her group to super influencer status.
Anyway, Mona's post quickly fills up with likes.
L.B. has managed to get the drug packet out of himself, but no one wants to use it because of where it has been.
There is a locked door in the house that will open only during the climax.
Sarah leads them downstairs to find weird glasses that has the seven deadly Sins printed on them. Will finds that the TV only plays an infomercial on the seven deadly Sins.
Mona decides who gets what, and she awards herself with Pride, L.B
with lust, Will with Sloth, Liv with greed, and Sarah with Wrath. She thinks that Sarah may be sweet but probably hides anger inside of her.
The friends party while Guy goes off alone outside to become the first victim. He was labeled a glutton, and so a masked killer knocks him out and puts a pig's snout on a mask. Guy is made to watch a clip with Jojo Siwa and inhale the gases that lead to his insides exploding.
Guy's friends don't even care where he is gone. They are enjoying their party while Mona and L.B. head to the room.
L.B is recording their intimate moment when the hooded killer enters. But before he can stab anyone, Mona notices him in the camera.
The killer runs away while Mona grabs everyone and shows them the video.
And then, in plain Pretty Little Liars style, everyone gets a text message with Collette's face showing.
Sarah wants to know who Collette is, and Mona becomes aggressive. Will tells Sarah the whole story. He tells her how Collette was a new student who developed a crush on Mona but was rejected.
And that is why Collette committed suicide. Liv goes on to tell Sarah later that Mona was a bully who posted a private video Collette had sent Mona online. Ashamed, Collette killed herself.
While the friends are getting ready, Mona overhears L.B bragging about Mona being easy and that he actually wants to go after Sarah. Jealous, she tells Will that Sarah is bulimic. Sarah is busy looking for her locket that L.B. is hiding from her so that he can take credit for finding it and be her hero.
Meanwhile, Liv is taken and placed in a tub. If she manages to get 1000 likes she gets to live. She is being streamed live online, and the likes keep coming for some reason. Sarah thinks Liv is putting up a show online and throws in a like, too. However, the killer deducts one point because he disliked it. Acid falls on Liv, killing her.
The other friends are still unaware that two of their friends have been killed.
Sarah is eating an apple when Will tells her that she doesn't have to throw up everything she eats. Sarah finds out that Mona is spreading rumors about her and confronts her. She storms off.
L.B goes after her to console her but actually wants to take advantage of her. He removes his clothes but instead of Sarah finds the hooded killer who kills him brutally by using "lusty" toys on him.
Aaron finally comes over and wants to see if L.B really went after Sarah. Mona is making out with Will because she is bored. The friends find blood everywhere but not L.B.
With only four left, there is a lot of running around. The previously unlocked door opens, and the room has photos and videos of Collette.
Before she killed herself, she carved all her friends' name on the wooden board. The friends found out and burned down the entire cabin. That part is on film.
The killer emerges, and off goes Will.
As they are running about, Mona uses Aaron as a shield when they get stuck at a dead end.
Aaron dies.
There's blood and organs thrown at Sarah who can't see anything. Mona fights the killer and has some decent action moves.
She manages to unmask the killer during the fight.
#AMFAD ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD Ending Explained
The killer is Officer Shaw.
Mona is shocked that a cop could be behind the killings. She asks Sarah to help who finally manages to wipe her eyes. She takes a knife...and stabs Mona.
No surprise there. It was kind of obvious that Sarah had something to do with all of it.
Before Mona could pass away, Sarah asked Officer Shaw to give her the locket. She opens it to show Mona Collette's photo.
Now, Sarah was either very good friends with Collette or in love with her. That part is not certain.
She tells Mona how upset Collette had been when Mona posted her video online. And how she was there when Collette killed herself but had arrived too late to save her.
She then slits Mona's neck and places a call to the police in a frantic voice.
The police come and find similarities between this and the SDSK killer.
Officer Shaw takes Sarah to the side and kisses her. Sarah recalls how Officer Shaw saved her life when she was about to commit suicide and how she promised to help her exact revenge.
But Officer Shaw doesn't know how Sarah was able to get a video of the friends standing by the video.
Sarah confesses that she had reached there and called only Mona so that she could kill her. But Collette came instead to stop Sarah from killing the person she still loved.
Sarah accidentally shot Collette and tried to frame the friends by carving their names but they had burned down the whole cabin.
Officer Shaw promises to keep her secret but Sarah has other plans. She takes her gun and when they make a fuss, the other detectives show up.
Now the other detectives had found footage of the killer revealing a tattoo, the very one Officer Shaw has.
Officer Shaw realizes she is being framed and tries to kill Sarah but the detectives shoot her right in the head.
Sarah plays the victim and manages to get away with everything.
In the mid-credits, Rick calls Sarah and promises to make her a star since she's a survivor. Sarah rejects the offer.
In the end-credits scene, the SDSK calls Sarah and admonishes her for using his techniques. He vows revenge on everyone she knows.
So, the sequel is going to be EVERYONE I KNOW IS DEAD. Coming Soon.
Is it though?
The movie ends.
My Take On The Movie
All My Friends Are Dead is a subpar addition to the slasher genre. It did have some potential, but it never fully grasps the concept, nor does it utilize the characters and develop a decent slasher.
