Horror Movie News Update: The Black Phone 2
The phone is ringing again. Do you dare pick it up?
Yes, the BLACK PHONE 2 has its first trailer released for all to see.
The first movie was based on Joe Hill's short story, which was met with critical acclaim and box office success. Based on how it ended, with the antagonist, The Grabber, dying in the end, there was much speculation about what the sequel would hold. How can you make The Grabber return?
The trailer for Black Phone 2 has put those speculations to rest.
The Grabber has returned, but this time, it is a spirit.
Many have compared the trailer to THE THING and a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.
There is a snowy landscape and The Grabber haunting dreams, but this time, his target appears to be Finney's sister Gwen.
In the trailer, we see an icy landscape, although it appears to be a clip from a video. There's a phone booth in the middle of nowhere, three boys who are playing snowball fights, and one of them floating under the ice.
We meet Gwen, who is apparently dreaming of being locked in the basement where Finney was in the first part. She is clearly being haunted by The Grabber, and since she is psychic, the clues to her nightmares lay in the disappearance of the three boys.
Disturbed by her nightmares, she confides in Finney, who looks at black phones wearily.
Eventually, he takes a call in the phone booth, and The Grabber warns him that despite his death, he is still not gone. And of all the things, Finney should know that Dead is just a word. After all, in the first part, he was using the black phone to converse with The Grabber's previous victims who were trying to help Finney escape.
Now, ironically, The Grabber is using the black phone to make his own calls to terrorize Finney.
Since Gwen is capable of psychic dreams, The Grabber targets her, and when he hurts her in her dreams, she gets hurt for real.
Perhaps Gwen will be the one who disappears this time, and it will be up to Finney to find and save his sister before it is too late.
The movie is slated for an October release, the Halloween month!
