Horror Movie Spotlight: THAMA
The fifth installment to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is here and it is just as bloody as promised.
While the previous movies: Stree, Stree 2, Bhediya, and Munjya, only had themes of love, THAMA is being promoted as the first love story of the universe.
The movie was teased in the post credits scene of Stree 2 when Bhaskar (from Bhediya (werewolf) )who has just returned to his human form, is speaking to Jana about going to Delhi where there is a new threat. He talks about a creature that sucks blood out of the necks of unsuspecting victims. Clearly he’s hinting at vampires.
Now, we get a glimpse of the world of Thama thanks to the newest teaser trailer.
In the trailer, we overhear a man ask whether his partner will be able to live without him for the next 100 years. The woman replies that forget 100 years she isn’t ready to live without him for even a moment.
We first see Rashmika Mandanna as Tadaka, wearing either a tribal or villahger outfit. Then we see Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok, who appears to have been wounded.
They are in the forest and Alok is mimicking Tadaka’s movements. Since it’s a vampire movie, there are bound to be a cloud of bats flying about. Following that, we see a scene in which Tadaka is hanging from the building and holding up Alok. So…is she the vampire who possesses super strength?
There’s screaming, people flying about, Tadaka wailing, her eyes changing to red, claws and then a fire trail. Of course since it is a Bollywood movie, we do get to see glimpses of the songs in which Malaika Arora is seen in at least one song.
The movie is going to use a lot of CGI and while some of it looks clunky, the scene with the bear in the forest looks decent at least. And we do find out how Ayushmann was injured in the first look.
At one point there is even a flying car, reminiscent of Rohit Shetty movies. But since this movie is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, hopefully there will be less gimmicks and more of a story.
We do see a glimpse of Paresh Rawal who may be related to Alok.
At the end of the trailer, we finally find out who the antagonist is going to be. Every love story has one, right?
And it is none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui who plays Yakshasan. From what we can see, he may be from an ancient civilization as well, who shrewdly states that he has waited years to see a love story, before of course, attacking those below him.
The movie is rumored to have a special appearance by Varun Dhawan as Bhediya, to tie up the movies together.
Thama will release on October 17th, just in time for it to count as a Diwali release. So far, none of the movies in the horror comedy universe has flopped so chances are pretty good that THAMA will see some success as well.
