Black Cab-- My Take On The Movie With Spoilers!

Plot: A cab driver picks up a couple and soon reveals his sinister intentions for them.

Quick Horror Movie Review

You might think twice about hailing taxis after watching Black Cab.

There's something sinister, an unease, that grips you the minute the movie opens. It is a thrilling ride throughout, but unfortunately, it steers away from the plot towards the end. The ending spoils the otherwise thrilling movie.

BLACK CAB Movie Plot

The movie opens with Anne sitting in a cab. She's pregnant and, on the way, sees the ghost of a woman.

She wakes up and is glad it was a nightmare.

In the next scene, she is with Patrick, her boyfriend. They are with another couple, Ryan and Jessica.

Ryan tells them all a story about the urban legend of the killer in the backseat. To those who don't know, basically it is about a woman who thinks another car is following her because they want to attack her but it turns out the driver in the other car wants to warn her about the killer

During the dinner, Patrick calls for champagne and announces that he is movie back with Anne. And that they are getting married!

Jessica is beyond shocked. Anne is overwhelmed and goes to the washroom only for Jessica to follow her and ask if it is true that she wants to marry Patrick. Anne confirms it, but she isn't too happy about that.

Outside, Anne is perplexed by the evening's events and hails a cab. As it draws nearer, she spots a ghostly woman, which disappears.

Patrick is arguing, and Anne tells him she wants to go alone, but he insists he is moving in back with her and practically pushes her inside.

Jessica creates a ruckus, and Patrick tells her to shut up.

He gets into the car with Anne, and they close the door. The driver seems amused by this. When Jessica wants to talk to Anne, she notices that the windows are tinted.

The driver introduces himself as Ian and drives off after giving a quick wave at Jessica.

Patrick gives a hard time to Anne, who is clearly regretting giving him a second chance. She lets him know that she knows that he brought another woman to his room because Jessica told her so. Patrick negates this by saying that he couldn't possibly bring another woman with Ryan and Jessica just in the next room.

Ian says he recognizes Anne and picked her up from the maternity hospital once. She denies it, but when Ian keeps insisting throughout the narrative, Anne can not deny it anymore, and Patrick catches on before she can say it.

Ian suddenly stops, saying he needs to make an important call. Patrick and Anne are still at it. Frustrated, Anne wants to get out of the car but finds her door locked.

Ian returns and tells the couple that his son is really sick. Patrick tells him that since they are in the middle of nowhere, Ian has to drop them and then go do whatever he wants. Anne just gives a perfunctory warning to not talk to someone like that.

Patrick loses his cool, which pisses off Ian. He pretends to forget the address and wants to take a look at a map. Patrick makes a snide remark about Ian being not too up to date.

Ian goes around to open the boot, and yes, he is taking out a map. Then he comes over to Patrick's side and, under the pretence of asking him about the address, then zaps him.

Anne freaks out about it, and Ian warns her to stay back or else she will be hurt too.

He gets into the cab, and Anne realizes that she still can not open the door.

Anne tries to talk to him about his son, but he says it's too late to be nice because they didn't bother asking about his son before.

He stops suddenly and tells her that he will take care of her as long as she complies. He opens a bottle of water and gives it to her to drink. She wants to save some for Patrick, but he assures her that he has extra. He force feeds water to her, and she almost chokes on it.

After the bottle is empty, Ian pretends to lament about having only one bottle and not one for Patrick.

Anne quickly tells Ian that she has to pee. He helps her with her binds but then ties one arm to the cab. He walks away to give her some privacy.

Anne removes her panties and hides it under the cab as a way of leaving a trail.

But as she is doing it, she sees the ghost of a woman and freaks out. Ian is alerted and comes to her. He stuffs her back in the car, then notices that she left her underwear under the cab. He throws it to her and warns her not to pull that trick again.

Anne asks Ian about his family, and he shows her the photograph of his son and wife. Anne tries to show sympathy towards his plight, but he's not buying it.

He stops at a gas station and gets out. Anne sees a car drive to the station too and tells Patrick, who is mostly in and out of this whole thing, that she is going to try and scream for help when Ian opens the door to get inside.

Patrick apologizes for his behaviour and that he can not do much in his position. He also admits to sleeping with Jessica. Anne is horrified and disgusted at the revelation.

Anne waits for her chance, but Ian deduces her intentions and deliberately stays outside until the other driver leaves.

Anne is desperate to escape, especially since Patrick needs medical help.

This may be the first movie that shows an accurate representation of what happens to someone when they are tasered. In most movies, the victim recovers in minutes.

Anyway, Ian keeps pressing about picking her up from the hospital, and Anne remembers how she saw a ghostly woman in the cab at the time. She mentions this to Ian, who tells her about the ghost on Mabel Road, who keeps looking for her baby who died.

Anne asks if he's taking her to Manel Road, and he tells her that they've been on the road since the beginning.

He then reveals that and his wife are not exactly together anymore. He reveals that the ghost tried to kill his son, and his wife was accusing him of cheating.

BLACK CAB Ending Explained

Ian then brings them to a house and asks Anne to help him carry Patrick inside. She extracts a promise from him that he will not kill Patrick, and he agrees.

They carry Patrick inside, and Ian gets even more unhinged. He keeps changing his stories regarding the ghost woman who may have been his passenger and who suddenly disappeared from his backseat along with his kid.

In another version, he thinks the woman is punishing him because she lost her child and since he was planning to kill his own because he suspected his son wasn't his, the woman has been haunting him.

He reveals that he plans to offer Anne's child to the woman so that she can leave him alone.

Anne remembers Ian from when he picked her up from the hospital, and he didn't accept her fare. He had only asked for a promise in return that she would take care of her baby.

Anne realizes she's in danger and tries to escape with Patrick only for Ian to come behind them and slit Patrick's throat.

Anne is devastated because Ian had promised not to hurt him. Ian doesn't have any sympathy left for her anymore and gives chase.

After some running around and getting caught, Anne reveals she doesn't have a baby anymore. She lost it after the ride in the cab and remembers ghostly hands caressing her belly. She suspects the ghost woman took her baby.

Ian realizes she is useless and decides to distance himself. Anne sees the ghost woman and gives it chase, angry that she lost Patrick and her baby because of her.

Ian returns to his cab and starts to drive only for Anne to end up coming down the hill and running on the road.

She is hit by Ian's cab. Ian gets down but doesn't see a body.

In the last scene, we see a ghostly Anne peeking out from the backseat.

Apparently, whoever loses a baby and goes on Mabel Hill Road ends up turning into a ghost and cursed to roam about until they can find a baby.

It still doesn't make sense why Ian was haunted by these women.

Maybe it's because when he hit the woman with his cab, the woman lost her child and haunted him until he lost his child?

Ian's role in all of this lacks clarity.

Anyway, the movie ends.

Final Thoughts About The Movie

It was a solid movie up to the very end when the motives and story don't really gel well together, leaving the audience confused about the entire thing.
