Horror Movie Spotlight: Keeper

 

Relationships can be tricky to manage and even more so when you realize that the person you have been with all this time may not be who you think they are. 

Osgood Perkins returns as director in the new horror movie KEEPER.

 

 The plot of the movie is as follows: A couple goes to a secluded cabin to celebrate their anniversary, but a dark, sinister presence forces them to confront the property’s haunting past. 

The story is written by Nick Lepard, who has previously written the 2025 horror/thriller DANGEROUS ANIMALS. Following her previous role as Lois in THE MONKEY (directed by Osgood Perkins) Tatiana Maslany returns in another horror movie alongside Rossif Sutherland. 

In the teaser trailer of the movie, we see that the movie appears to have been broken down in parts, one from Liz’s perspective and the other from Malcolm’s.

Interestingly, Liz is seen in quotes. 

The dialogues are the same for both characters with the changes only being in pronouns:

Why does it always have to end?

Is there any way to keep love alive?

Do I even know this man/woman?

Is it his/her face I see

When I close my eyes

Or only a mask that he's/she’s wearing,

Always there,

Looking back at me.

I think he's/she’s a keeper.

Now, usually a “keeper” in this scenario means a reliable and loving partner, but given that it’s an Osgood Perkins movie, and the atmospheric music is highly tense, something is clearly off about this relationship. 

Previously, a teaser released for this movie showed four different women from four different time periods. They all look at someone and smile, clearly crushing hard on the unseen individual. But then we see them no longer blushing but being startled every time the unseen individual appears. 

This spirals into something more bloody because we later see all the four women, covered in streams of blood. In the background, a woman says that “this place isn’t right for me.” 

Could these events have taken place in the same location where Liz and Malcolm are currently staying?

Is the keeper in this regard a stable companion or the keeper of the cabin/ area?

I guess we won’t find out until November 14th when this movie finally releases.
