After the merger of Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, horror fans have been treated to a lineup of movies all which have collected over $1 billion at the box office in 2025.
Can 2026 break that record for this horror juggernaut?
2026 promises brand new horror movies from the banner, adaptations and even sequels to popular franchises.
Here is what is in store for horror fans in 2026
1. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (possibly retitled to THE RESURRECTION)
Release Date: April 17, 2026
Cast: Jack Reynor, May Calamawy, Laia Costa, and Veronica Falcón.
Plot Details: A contemporary horror reboot that follows a father whose missing daughter returns after years, only to reveal she is a vessel for an ancient, malevolent evil. Director Lee Cronin has promised a "terrifying" experience that abandons action-adventure for pure supernatural dread.
2. Mortal Kombat 2
Release Date: May 8, 2026
Cast: Karl Urban (Johnny Cage), Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Lewis Tan, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
Plot Details: Picking up after the 2021 reboot, the sequel focuses on the Outworld invasion and the introduction of fan-favorite Johnny Cage. While an action-fantasy, producer James Wan has verified a significant "horror-heavy" focus on gore and visceral "Fatalities."
3. Insidious 6 (Untitled Sequel)
Release Date: August 21, 2026
Cast: Lin Shaye (Elise Rainier), Brandon Perea, and Amelia Eve.
Plot Details: Directed by Jacob Chase, this entry returns to "The Further" with a new set of central characters. While specifics are under wraps, it is confirmed to be a direct continuation of the franchise lore rather than a spin-off.
4. Other Mommy
Release Date: October 9, 2026
Cast: Jessica Chastain, Jay Duplass, Karen Allen, and Dichen Lachman.
Plot Details: Based on the novel Incidents Around the House, the story centers on 8-year-old Bela, who is stalked by a sinister entity she calls "Other Mommy." The entity attempts to manipulate the child into letting it "inside her heart" to consume her family.
5. The Backrooms
Release Date: 2026 (TBA)
Cast: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, and Finn Bennett.
Plot Details: Directed by viral creator Kane Pixels, the film expands on the "Found Footage" YouTube series. It follows a therapist searching for a patient who "no-clipped" into a liminal maze of yellow hallways, uncovering the shadowy Async organization's experiments.
6. The Revenge of La Llorona
Release Date: Late 2026 (Likely)
Cast: Monica Raymund, Jay Hernandez, and Raymond Cruz (returning as Rafael Olvera).
Plot Details: A direct sequel to the 2019 film set within The Conjuring Universe. The plot follows a troubled family forced to confront their past when a grieving mother’s ancient curse targets their children, requiring the help of an estranged curandero.
7. Saw XI (The Reinvention)
Release Date: Late 2026 (Targeted)
Cast: Tobin Bell (Expected)
Plot Details: Following a major rights shift to Blumhouse in mid-2025, this project is being fast-tracked as a creative "reinvention." It is expected to return to the grounded, trap-focused suspense of the original films while expanding John Kramer’s twisted legacy.
Note on SOULM8TE: This M3GAN spin-off was originally set for January 2026 but was removed from the schedule as of last week. It is currently looking for a new distributor and may not make a 2026 release.
