Horror Movie News: Bhooth Bangla releases on April 17th

The comedy team is back, and it is a treat for fans who have waited years to see them back in a horror comedy.

The last time we saw them together was in Bhool Bhulaiya, Bollywood’s first psychological horror movie, as it was promoted. And let’s face it, one of the best Bhool Bhulaiya movies in the franchise.

Bhooth Bangla saw several release dates, beginning with May 10th, but apparently, the CGI cat did not approve, and as per the teaser, knocked it right over the table. The black cat then licks the spilled milk over the April 10th date.

However, the industry is trying to show support for the latest blockbuster, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is still riding waves of success.

And so, here we have it, the new release date: April 17th.

We also finally have a trailer!

My Take on  the trailer for BHOOTH BANGLA

The movie trailer is full of nostalgia. We do see Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Akshay Kumar in their element, but we are fortunate to see veteran actor Govardhan Asrani in his last role before his demise.

The trailer does have a lot of CGI and does seem more like another installment of Bhool Bhulaiya than a new movie, but perhaps that was a deliberate attempt to remind fans that they are the original comedy team.

The trailer starts off with the gates opening to reveal a mansion, possibly the same one where the filming of Bhool Bhulaiya took place. A voiceover warns that Vadhusur hasn’t left yet but has only grown more powerful.

It’s a thousand-year-old curse (isn’t it always, though) that has plagued the palace.

We see people in red cloaks and rituals being performed. Someone is trying to bring him back.

Cue storms, bats, and scary forests.

Akshay Kumar enters, stunned by the large palace he has inherited. The town is enriched with stories of ghosts, witches, and black magic, something that our heroine finds fascinating.

No doubt she’s a researcher who will get herself into peril, but no worries, Akshay Kumar is there to save the day. We get a glimpse of a song, so maybe the love interest gets more to do?

More bats flying about, Akshay Kumar in his comedic element, and some slapstick comedy. Names are made fun of, people are slapped, and Paresh Rawal looks like he’s about to blow his lid trying to convince people there is something wrong in the palace.

We see Akshay Kumar trying hard to convince his sister that everything is normal and that any piano playing at night is being done by him.

We also learn that there are ghosts who live in the jungle behind the palace. When Akshay Kumar announces that he wants his sister to get married in the palace, Asrani tells him that no one ever gets married in Mangalpur, the town where they supposedly live.

We finally get a glimpse of Tabu dancing, but she looks a bit angry. Clearly, she is an integral part of the story or the key to the curse.

The trailer does well to hide the twists and instead focuses on delivering samples of comedy scenes, bringing back some dialogue from previous Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar movies.

Based on the plot revealed online, Akshay Kumar plays a foreign returnee who inherits the palace. He immediately fixes it as the venue for his sister’s wedding, not realizing that the palace is a gateway between two realms, guarded by an ancient entity.

Written and directed by Priyadarshan, the cast includes Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Asrani.

BHOOTH BANGLA releases on April 17th.  Advanced Paid Previews begin on April 16th.
