Horror Movie Spotlight: Watch Out! Here comes the Ice Cream Man
Here comes the Ice Cream Man, but why does the poster say WATCH OUT FOR CHILDREN?
Eli Roth’s newest horror movie, Ice Cream Man, has just dropped a teaser, and the audience has already reacted to it, calling it chaotic, demented, and comparing it to last year’s hit WEAPONS.
Many have noticed similarities between the story lines and compared them to the climax scene of Weapons being extended.
According to Eli Roth, this is an original story that he has wanted to make for 20 years, but didn’t move ahead with it because he thought the audience or studios would censor him.
But with the recent success of films like TERRIFIER, clearly the audience is accepting of this kind of violent genre, which has probably encouraged Eli Roth to move ahead with this project.
Eli Roth himself has said that Ice Cream Man is one of his most insane projects, possibly more than Hostel.
WHAT IS THE PLOT ACCORDING TO THE TEASER?
In the teaser, we see an ice cream truck enter a town called Bayleen Bay. The mascot is a whale jumping out, waving. Clearly, it is supposed to be a cutesy town where everyone is friends with each other.
There are kids playing baseball and parents cheering for them. A really supportive, warm community.
The ice cream truck comes rolling in, and all the kids clamber towards it. One of the boys feels odd looking at the truck. The kids get their ice creams, but we also see the ice cream man distributing to all the kids in schools and everywhere.
Shortly after, the kids exhibit strange behavior. They become violent.
We see kids standing over their sleeping parents, holding weapons. The teachers are also not safe. In fact, in one of the scenes, some of the students are holding down the teacher while another brings in a baseball bat.
There is blood splattering everywhere. One of the children is on the floor, making snow or blood angels.
I scream, you scream, we all scream…ICE CREAM MAN.
Written by Eli Roth and Noah Belson, and directed by Eli Roth, the film stars Ari Millen as the Ice Cream Man alongside Benjamin Byron Davis, Sarah Abbott, Dylan Hawco, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer, Karen Cliche, Shiloh O’Reilly, and Charlie Storey.
ICE CREAM MAN will release on August 7th.
