Horror TV Spotlight: FROM SEASON 4 Premieres on April 19th
Coming as no surprise, FROM received a Fifth Season renewal even before the fourth season is set to premiere.
The sci-fi horror show has been a quick favorite among fans and critics alike ever since its first season, which premiered in 2022. Following the season three finale, the show took a two-year gap, citing filming and production delays.
When FROM first came out, it was compared to another hit show, LOST, due to its familiar storyline but unlike the 2004 scifi show, FROM managed to consistently deliver good ratings in the past three seasons, possibly benefiting from a smaller cast and a 10-episode format each season which meant the story was tighter and the plot twists led to effectively shocking cliffhangers.
The story of FROM is about a family traveling in an RV before they come across a fallen tree across the road. The detour results in them ending up stranded in a small town from which they can never escape. But the worst part is that every night, creatures from the woods surrounding the town emerge to claim more victims.
There is no escaping these creatures who look human but are anything but.
Over the course of the season, the family learns to acclimate to their new situation. The town sheriff and mayor, Boyd Stevens, played capably by Harold Perrineau, tries his best to keep the community together with the help of the equally evocative Donna, played by Elizabeth Saunders.
As the first season draws to a close, the people in the town are in for a shock when a busload of people stops at their town.
The second season deals with the new residents, with at least one of them in a relationship with one of the original residents in the town. There are some who are hostile, and others who begin to have visions of creatures immediately.
Boyd is trapped elsewhere, leaving Donna to pick up his responsibilities and deal with new residents and a quickly depleting supply of food and medicine.
The season ends with one of the residents falling from the lighthouse and waking up in the real world.
Season Three deals with a surprising pregnancy, rotting crops, and the resident who was in the real world, returning to her family once again. The lore of the town is explored. The creatures are far more dangerous than anyone expected, and at least two of the residents are tied to the past of history.
The season ends with a resident, seemingly returning from the future, to be killed off by a man in a yellow suit.
Season Four will be far more demanding. Now that the past connection has been revealed, will the residents find a way to defeat the creatures? Will they finally be able to escape the town?
Going through a tree certainly did not work for at least one of the residents in the previous season, who ended up stuck in a drained-out swimming pool.
The trailer of Season Four does suggest that some of the residents will be desperate enough to give up on their morality just to survive. We may even see more characters joining in. Will they bring more answers, or cause more problems?
Season Four of FROM premieres on April 19th on MGM+
