2026 Horror Movies: What's Coming And What's Filming
Coming soon…more horror movies!
But not just any horror movies. We will be treated to new and exciting stories, sequels of beloved movies, and maybe even a prequel to movies we grew up with.
Not all of these movies will release this year, though, but they are reportedly going to start filming soon.
1) Fall 2
The sequel to the hit 2022 survival thriller FALL will release on August 7th!
In the original, we saw two friends, Becky and Shiloh, climb a decommissioned 2000-foot TV Tower in a desert. Suffice to say, the two friends get stuck when a corroded ladder gives way. Unfortunately, Shiloh dies, and Becky is rescued by her father, who receives her emergency text.
Fall 2 will follow the story of Jax, Shiloh’s story, who decides to dedicate the next climb to her. So along with her friend, she decides to complete the daring plank-walk at Mount Kwan-in in Thailand. A rockslide occurs, after which she and her friend are stranded 3000 feet in the air.
Will she make it down alive? Will she get closure from her sister’s death? Will her friend survive?
We will find out in August.
2) The Ice Cream Man
Eli Roth had wanted to make this movie for two decades, and now, finally, it gets a release date for August 7th…yes, along with Fall 2. Eli Roth has directed, written, and produced this horror movie that is about an ice cream man who serves treats to kids that turn them into homicidal maniacs.
So, THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CHILDREN and CHILDREN OF THE CORN.
3) Scooby Doo Prequel
Netflix has finally locked in the cast and is ready to begin filming the live-action version of Scooby-Doo.
Who doesn’t know Scooby Doo? The cartoon, which has been around since 1969, will see yet another version of the story. This time, we find out how Mystery Inc was formed.
It all starts with Daphne and Shaggy, friends at a camp who get embroiled in a supernatural murder mystery that involves a Great Dane puppy who may be the only witness. Could that be…Scooby? Probably. Daphne and Shaggy team up with Velma and Fred to solve the mystery.
The series is expected to have 8 episodes. Will it be released this year?
Only time will tell.

4) Will Chucky return?
Jennifer Tilly thinks so. Chucky the TV series, was cancelled in 2024, but that doesn’t mean Don Mancini has given up on his pet project. In fact, Mancini has stated that he is working on the early stages of a Chucky movie. So while the TV series may be gone for good, Chucky and Tiffany will return in a new movie.
5) Skeletons films this summer
Produced by J.J. Abrams and starring Brie Larson, Skeletons is an upcoming creature feature that is about a young boy who discovers that his parents are hiding a disturbing secret from him, one that involves locking up the mother in a cage every night.
6) A Quiet Place 3 is in the works
No surprise there. A Quiet Place was always intended to be a trilogy, discounting the spinoff, but John Kransinski was apparently waiting for the response to the second movie before he worked on the third. And now, of course, the third movie has been announced, along with the cast. Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds, and Cillian Murphy are all returning.

7) Heart Eyes 2 Script Finished
The 2025 Romantic Comedy Slasher hit will return with a sequel. The movie was about a couple who had to survive a Heart Eyes Killer on Valentine’s Day. The mystery is solved, and the couple manages to go on a real date and end up engaged.
The sequel may start filming this year, but considering the theme, it’s more likely to be released next Valentine’s Day.
8) Becky is coming back!
Becky is returning to inflict more wrath. The franchise began in 2020 with Becky avenging her father’s death. The sequel, released in 2023, called The Wrath of Becky, in which Becky avenges the death of a woman who had taken her in, and the dog that was taken. Don’t worry, Becky gets her dog back.
The third part is called The Last Temptation of Becky. This time, Becky is an undercover CIA agent. She was recruited in the sequel, remember? Her mission? To take down an extremist group.
Of course, Becky will succeed, right? The movie is scheduled to release sometime in 2026.
9) Smile 3 in the works
The Smile movies are yet another profitable horror movie franchise. Will it be a trilogy? Or will we see Smile 10?
What began as a short turned into a feature-length movie in 2022, which turned out to be a box office success. A sequel released in 2024 that was also a success. So, of course, it is no surprise that a third movie has been planned.
Casting has not been announced, and no release date has been set yet. However, filming is expected to begin this year.
10) Lights Out 2
The 2016 horror movie, based on a short movie, turned out to be a grand success, and immediately a sequel was greenlit. 10 years later, and we finally have confirmation that Lights Out 2 is happening! Details are under wraps, casting has not been finalized, and the story may take place 10 years after the original movie.
