Horror Movie News: First Look Out For INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER

Did you really think Insidious: The Red Door was the final movie in the Insidious franchise?

While the 2023 movie was teased as the final movie, especially with the tagline: It Ends Where It All Began, of course, that wasn’t going to be the end of the franchise.

Perhaps the end of the story for the Lambert family, but certainly not for the franchise that has earned more than $731 million worldwide.

Earlier, there were reports that 2026 would finally see the release of the spinoff movie THREADS: AN INSIDIOUS TALE that would star Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani. This movie has reportedly been in development since 2022, and 2026 was reported to be the release date.

Instead, a brand new Insidious movie has been announced called “INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER”.

Since the Lambert family is not returning, Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins have not been cast. But you never know, there may just be a special appearance from them.

We do, however, see the return of Lin Shaye!

Lin Shaye’s character Elise Rainier has been part of every Insidious movie so far. While she did die in the first movie, that didn’t stop the filmmakers from bringing her back, whether through flashbacks or as a ghost.

Insidious: Out of the Further serves as a sequel to Insidious: The Red Door.

For the uninitiated, The Further is a realm that can only be accessed by someone who has astral projection abilities. It is a parallel world that is inhabited by parasitic entities, lost souls, and trapped memories. And the entrance to it is through The Red Door.

If the sequel is titled Out of the Further, then it can only mean one thing: the entities are going to creep out of their realm. For some reason, they find the real world absolutely captivating.

In Insidious: The Red Door, we did see the entrance being sealed. Yet the end credits scene suggested that the entities wouldn’t stay behind it for long.

And so here we have it, the sequel.

In the recently dropped trailer, we see a dentist called Gemma examine an elderly patient. She is removing something from his mouth when another set of teeth appears, clenching on her finger. This causes her to fall backwards, and the next thing we know, she is in another realm, possibly The Further, where an old-time dentist attacks her.

The scene changes, and this is assumed to be a nightmare. Gemma seems to be having plenty of those.

She has a daughter, and it has been only the two of them for a long time. They live in a supportive community, and Gemma is trying to give her daughter a good life, but the nightmares are getting worse.

When she wakes up one night, she looks under her bed, moves a flashlight, and sees a pair of legs.

Unable to face the terror each night, she visits a tattoo parlor where she asks the woman who works there for help. She’s clearly not just a tattoo artist. She gets into her gear, much like Elise used to wear, and manages to project Elise through her. We see Lin Shaye in the mirror, explaining to Gemma what is happening to her.

Gemma, too, has the rare gift of traveling to The Further. However, she also possesses the ability to bring back demons into the real world.

In the next few scenes, we see the horrific entities everywhere around them, including the neighbors. Gemma is afraid she won’t be able to control her abilities well enough to keep the monsters at bay.

Will Elise have to save the day, yet again?

Written and directed by Jacob Chase, Insidious: Out of the Further stars Amelia Eve as Gemma, Brandon Perea in a leading role, Lin Shaye returning as Elise Rainier, and supporting cast members Maisie Richardson‑Sellers, Sam Spruell, Laura Gordon, and Island Austin.

INSIDIOUS: OUT OF FURTHER releases on August 21st.
