Horror Movie News: Verity Teaser drop. Releases this October.

The first trailer for Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel adaptation, VERITY, has just dropped. A departure from her usual romance dramas, the author’s psychological thriller was well-received by critics and readers, although some readers did find the ending to be a bit too ambiguous.

The movie has been in the news for a long time, ever since the first images dropped.

Verity, the novel, opens with a grisly scene. The protagonist, Lowen, is splattered by blood when a man is hit by a car while she is waiting at the pedestrian crossing.

The first stills of the movie released were of this very scene. Dakota Johnson, who plays Lowen, was seen with her headphones on when she had blood splattered on her.

Josh Harnett, who plays Jeremy Crawford, comes to her aid, and this is where the story takes an unusual turn.

In the novel, Lowen is hired as a ghost writer to complete bestselling author Verity’s latest novel. Jeremy is Verity’s husband. Verity was in an accident that has left her unable to move her limbs.

Lowen is invited to stay at the Crawfords house, where she finds a hidden manuscript that seems like Verity’s autobiography. The manuscript reveals Verity as a jealous and possessive woman who may have killed her twin daughters because they were taking up all of Jeremy’s attention.

Lowen begins to feel unsafe in the house as she suspects Verity may not be so helpless after all. Jeremy offers comfort, and the two end up falling in love.

Towards the end, Jeremy is infuriated to learn that Verity is behind the deaths of their daughters and ends up suffocating her. Lowen thinks they got rid of an evil, unhinged woman, but later finds a letter that implies that Verity’s autobiography may be a work of fiction after all.

The first trailer shows Lowen in the hallways, kissing Jeremy when he suddenly turns into Verity, who forces herself on Lowen and bites her lip. Lowen screams. We see glimpses of Lowen going off to live in the mansion. Verity in a wheelchair, helpless, and then her relationship with Jeremy during better times.

But Lowen keeps finding her everywhere, even in her bed at night, causing her to have a breakdown.

The trailer seems to be following the novel very closely. Will the movie follow the same twist as the book, or will it choose an even more surprising one?

Written and directed by Michael Showalter, with a screenplay by Nick Antosca, Verity stars Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford, Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie, Michael Abbott Jr., and Alex Cooper.

VERITY releases on October 2nd.
