Horror Movie News-- Mike Flanagan's Carrie Teaser Trailer Breakdown

The first teaser for Mike Flanagan’s CARRIE is here. 

Based on the 1974 novel by Stephen King, Carrie, which will premiere on  Prime Video, is yet another adaptation that gets a modern twist. 

The first reaction to the teaser has been: Do we really need another Carrie movie? Why do we need it? 

The story about Carrie is relevant today because bullying is still prevalent. Betrayal by close friends is still common, and rigid restrictions imposed by families are also not uncommon. 

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie includes cellphones and social media accounts. This means Carrie could also be subjected to cyberbullying. 

In his interviews, Mike Flanagan has mentioned that the prom scene is the showstopper of the series. We all know why, because that is when Carrie is enraged enough to use her telekinesis powers, finally exacting her revenge on all those who ridiculed her. But as Flanagan has stated, he has given it a different angle. 

In the recently released teaser, we see Carrie, played by Summer H. Howell, get excited to finally be allowed to go to school. She smiles at her classmates, gets them to be friends with her, and is invited to parties where she takes selfies with her friends. 

The voiceover states that all she ever wanted was to go to school. Her friends had put in so much effort to include her, so why couldn’t they just be her friend? Carrie sounds almost sad when she says that. 

In the end, she understands that things are difficult for everyone, but she could have actually been her friend. 

We see glimpses of Carrie being subjected to ridicule, the infamous bathroom scene where tampons are thrown at her, and the malicious plans her classmates are making. Will Mike Flanagan also go the pig’s blood route? Or is Carrie going to have an even worse time at her prom? 

We do see the town on fire and Carrie walking on the streets, determined for revenge. 

We don’t see anything new in the teaser yet except for the scenes we already know from the novel and the movies. Can Mike Flanagan manage to surprise us all by twisting the story and making it more heartbreaking? 

Mike Flanagan is known for his Haunting at Hill House and Haunting at Bly Manor, which were released on Netflix. 

Written and directed by Stephen King, the show also stars Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard, Samantha Sloyan, and Katie Siegel. 

Carrie will premiere on October 7th. All 8 episodes are expected to drop on the same day.
