Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan's REMAIN releases Valentines Day 2027

A filmmaker known for clever and suspenseful horror movies. An author known for sweet romance stories. Imagine both of them coming together for a movie! It is the collaboration of the decade.

M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks are working on a project called Remain. They co-authored a novel titled REMAIN that was released in October 2025.

The story follows Tate, an architect who goes to Cape Cod to design a summer home. He stays at a B&B where he meets Wren. He is immediately smitten with her, and the couple falls in love. But this is when the twist occurs.

Spoilers ahead!

It is earlier mentioned that Tate had just been discharged from a psychiatric facility where he was treated for acute depression following the death of his sister Sylivia.

On her deathbed, Sylvia revealed that she could see spirits that are still tethered to the living world. It's a gift that runs in the family.

So, naturally, Tate has it as though he realizes it after he falls in love.

Wren is a ghost, but she doesn't know she is dead. While it was thought she died of natural causes, it turns out she was murdered by the owners of the B&B to steal her inheritance. Tate manages to solve the mystery and help Wren finally be free.

Spoilers over.

Considering M. Night Shyamalan is known for his twists. Could it be that the filmmaker will change the ending for the big screen? Both authors have teased that the movie might not end exactly like the book.

The plot does seem similar to M. Night Shyamalan's hit movie, THE SIXTH SENSE.

After a string of ups and downs, it seems the filmmaker has decided to go back to his roots.

I see dead people. THE SIXTH SENSE.

It would be interesting to see if M. Night Shyamalan finds a way to connect Tate to Cole, the little boy who could see spirits as well.

Maybe their families are related.

Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan have also seemed to have come up with a different strategy to see if the audience is receptive to their collaboration.

The novel, Remain, is currently on the bestsellers list for Romantic Suspense. Customer reviews have been mixed, given that the readers didn't think the romance worked well with the paranormal sections.

But perhaps the audience might be more receptive towards the movie adaptation?

The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Tate and Phoebe Dynevor as Wren.

It also stars Tracy Ifeachor, Maria Dizzia, and Ashley Walters.

M.Night Shyamalan also directs this movie and quite possibly makes a cameo as well, much like in his previous movies.

The release of the movie has been pushed to 2027 to capitalize on the Valentine's Day crowd.

Remain will be released in theaters on February 5, 2027.
