Horror Movie News: VERITY movie trailer drop
The trailer for Verity has dropped, and if you’re a fan of Colleen Hoover’s novel, you may find this to your liking.
It’s always a risk to adapt a bestselling book that has amassed fans over the years. There is usually skepticism surrounding casting, whether key moments from the book would be brought on screen, and, most importantly, whether the ending will be the same.
VERITY stars Anne Hathaway as the titular character, Dakota Johnson as Lowen, and Josh Hartnett as Jeremy.
The trailer shows Lowen being hired by Jeremy to ghostwrite a book. Lowen is curious about Verity and finds out that she is incapacitated. Lowen is at first doubtful about taking up the job because Verity’s voice is inimitable. But Jeremy assures her that Verity herself has called her an undiscovered voice.
As Lowen begins her research, she comes across a flash drive where she finds Verity’s autobiography. In it, she learns a shocking dark secret about her.
Lowen and Jeremy are seen getting attracted to each other and starting an affair, only for Lowen to hallucinate Verity instead.
Towards the end, Verity is seen at her desk, warning about there only being darkness ahead.
Before the teaser even dropped, several images from filming had dropped online showing Lowen from the first scene where she gets splattered by blood.
This is from the first scene of the novel where Lowen was crossing the road, when a man is hit by a car and the blood splatters on her. Jeremy approaches her and helps her clean up, and that’s when their bond forms.
Throughout the book, Lowen feels guilty for starting an affair with a married man until she learns that his wife may be responsible for the death of their two daughters and traumatizing the surviving son.
As the story draws to a close, the ending remains ambiguous.
Spoiler alert: Verity has either confessed to trying to harm her children, or she had written the autobiography as notes for her upcoming novel. Lowen is left feeling confused about whether or not it was a good idea for her and Jeremy to get rid of Verity, who was either innocent or a very disturbed woman.
