Horror Weekly News: Shaitaan trailer released. Cuckoo teaser gives an eerie glimpse of a spooky resort
Sometimes a movie comes along, creates an impact and becomes successful. The audience is thrilled by it and the other filmmakers think, why not make it in a different language, with known stars and bring it to a wider audience.
Sometimes, these endeavors work.
SHAITAAN is an upcoming horror and thriller movie that is based on VASH, a Gujrati language thriller.
Janki Bodiwala who played Aarya, the daughter who gets under the stranger’s spell, will once again reprise her role in the remake. This time, she will play Janvi, Ajay Devgn and Jyothika’s daughter who suddenly begins to follow whatever orders R. Madhavan’s character gives out.
The trailer offers more glimpses of the movie and by the end of it, you know that it will be an edge-of-the-seat thriller.
We see a family of four, go to a vacation home. One fine day, a stranger approaches them on the pretext of wanting to charge his cellphone. He is invited in but soon enough the mother wants the stranger out while the father wants to remain hospitable.
Eventually, the father orders the stranger to leave but the stranger laughs it off. By this time, you can see that the stranger had arrived in the morning and it is now night.
As the father begins to drag the stranger out, the daughter suddenly has an outburst and demands that the stranger be allowed to stay.
The family is stunned. The stranger then reveals that the daughter is completely under his influence.
It is really hypnosis as he says or is it some sort of black magic? The parents are terrorized by their possessed daughter while they also have to helplessly watch their daughter agree to anything the stranger asks of her.
A fight ensues but the father finds himself on the losing side as the stranger smirks and the daughter does whatever it takes to keep the family frightened for their lives.
We do see a glimpse of the stranger dressed in black robes and conducting black magic. Is that what is happening?
The poster for the movie shows voodoo dolls and so it is safe to assume that something supernatural is afoot.
The movie is based on a story by Krishnadev Yagnik. Directed by Vikas Behl, and written by Aamil Keeyan Khan, the movie stars Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, Jyothika, and Janki Bodiwala.
SHAITAAN releases on March 8th.
NEON has hit it out of the park once again with the marketing strategy to promote another one of its films. Following the successful promotions of LONGLEGS, it is now employing similar strategies for its next horror release of this year, CUCKOO.
The promising teaser doesn’t divulge much except for a young woman walking out into the night as the background plays a new report. The young woman gets ready with her butterfly knife and as the title card flashes, we also see a glimpse of a woman in a scarf and shades, screeching as she lays her hand out.
There has been much speculation about this movie but the movie recently had its premiere at film festivals and the early reviews are in. So far, the movie stands with a 60% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Critics have described this movie as bizarre and absurd, though lauded the performances of Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens.
While the premise of the movie tells the story of a reluctant 17 year old girl named Gretched, being forced to live with her father and stepmother and stepsister at a resort in the German Alps. There, they meet the enigmatic Mr. König who has invited the parents to remodel the resort but seems very interested in Gretchen’s eight year old stepsister Alma.
Desperate for an escape, Mr. König offers Gretchen a job at the reception and she is immediately subjected to curious incidents where young women come and throw up. While this is seen as normal by the staff, Gretchen finds it absurd.
It is also revealed that Gretchen is freaked out by Alma because she absorbed her twin in utero, and that as soon as she arrived here, Alma has been having seizures.
There is a woman in a trench coat spooking everyone, the rule about not going out at night, and screeching heard sometimes.
Just what is going on at the resort?
There are rumors that the plot hints at cruel experiments and that the title Cuckoo could suggest what experiments are being conducted.
Cuckoo birds are known to lay their eggs in other bird nests so the movie may use this habit in the storyline and twist it into something dark.
The movie is written and directed by Tilman Singer, and stars Hunter Schafer, Dan Stevens, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey.
CUCKOO releases on May 3rd.
